Not All Surrey Kitchen Cabinet Refinishers Are Equal

As a homeowner in Surrey looking to get your kitchen or bathroom cabinets re-stained, re-painted, re-faced, re-finished or re-lacquered one thing you will quickly learn is that there are a lot of painting contractors in the Surrey area who claim to “paint” cabinetry. The thing is though, just because you painted some kitchen cabinets with paint doesn’t make you a “kitchen cabinet painter”. Painting kitchen cabinets, or in the case of Surrey Kitchen Cabinet Painting, involves using an extremely temperamental product called lacquer… and you’ve all heard of lacquer. The amateur companies use paint to paint your cabinetry while the true expert master uses only lacquer for your doors and drawers.

So, how do you figure out what company is best for your Surrey cabinetry refinishing? Well, first of all, ask the contractor what product they will be using. If they say “paint” then don’t expect the cabinetry to last very long because it won’t. If you’re doing a quickie type job for resale then paint might be fine under the circumstances. For the most part, though, lacquer is the way to go… because you want to be able to scrub them in perpetuity, without marring the surface. You also want to bump into them without them chipping.

The next best question is: “What kind of lacquer will you be using?” Here’s the low-down. A company called CCI out of South Carolina makes the best lacquer on the market, period, full stop. Their major suppliers are General Paint and Mohawk… so if the contractor says their using GP lacquer or Mohawk lacquer then you’re off to a very good start; product wise that is. Also, forget names like “Benjamin Moore” when it comes to lacquer. Benjamin Moore is in the business of selling overpriced interior and exterior house paint of regular quality to unsuspecting homeowners who have more money than brains. Benjamin Moore is certainly not in the business of selling lacquer, so forget about them. They do sell something called “Cabinet Coat” which aspires to be like lacquer but isn’t. At least it has a catchy name though right? So it must be good. Not!

Next question. “Hey contractor, when was the last time you painted cabinetry?” If the answer is “last year”… forget about it, you’re dealing with a pretender. At Surrey Kitchen Cabinet Painting all we do is lacquer cabinets, so our answer will be… “we painted cabinets yesterday… and the day before… and for the last 31 yrs, week after week, year after year”… and by the way, here are 20 testimonials”.

As a homeowner interested in hiring only the very best you should expect to see a portfolio or website or samples somewhere, some place to put your mind at ease. What does your mind have to be uneasy about? Well, for one, purchasing something that you’re really not quite sure about what you’re getting. At Surrey Kitchen Cabinet Painting we have some nice before and after shots on our website as well as some beautiful up close shots on our blog so you can see exactly what the finish looks like. Still not satisfied?… No problem, we will come to your house and show you cupboard doors samples already lacquered up so you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into. Forget the “trust me they will look fine” line. That’s one of the oldest ones in the books. If a company can’t provide pictures on their website or real samples for you to hold in their hand what does that say about that company? That they’re just winging it, that’s what it says.

Don’t take chances when it comes to refinishing your cabinetry. Hire the best in the business; that’s Surrey Kitchen Cabinet Painting.
